The mains function of the graphic user interface - GUI  is to create an operating environment that serves as visual context and is functional for the user's actions, by making visible and accessible the hypermedia document structure and the computer system.

The graphic design is included, along with other interaction aspects, in the interface design discipline, which has a central role in the evolution of hypermedia languages.
